Let‘s see: the $50 fee every other year is the equivalent of two-thirds of an hour of 18B representation. So what would we lawyers rather do: forty minutes of pro bono legal representation for an indigent criminal defendant, or pony up half a C-note once every two years? Maybe the Governor should give us that option to choose for ourselves.
