Western District Judge John Curtin, who ordered the desegregation of Buffalo schools and presided over one of the largest toxic contamination cases in U.S. history, died Friday following a lengthy illness.

    Judge Curtin was a great human being and a great judge. He always approached the law and life with elegance and a commitment to justice. He treated everyone with respect and dignity. It was a great privilege to have known him and to have to worked with him. I will miss him greatly.
