AG's Office Backs Parole for Possibly Innocent Convict

Two state Parole Board commissioners have slammed Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's office for urging the panel to release a man convicted of notorious sex offenses rather than taking steps to exonerate the potentially-innocent inmate.

    The Parole Commissioners quoted in the article are clearly unaware of what their role is. The parole statute, as amended in 2011, requires them to base their decisions on the risk involved in releasing someone, not on making a judgement about their crime. It appears they need to receive a refresher course on the responsibilities of their job.
