During the past two months in Supreme Court in Manhattan, law firms looking to collect unpaid fees in the still-tough economic climate have been suing clients, with the Law Journal reporting that as many as seven such suits have been filed in a single week.

    I was in Civil Court, NY County, yesterday on an attorney fee case for a client firm. Not every matter is about the former client's inability to pay.

    Most matters my firm handles revolves around a refusal to pay with no offer to settle. Those are the claims with potential traps, that must be brought between two different Statutes of Limitations.
