A worker on Friday clears the steps of Nassau County Supreme Court, which was closed in the wake of a storm that brought six to 11 inches of snow to the region. Many state and federal courthouses were closed on Friday, and the opening of others was delayed. However, New York City state courts were open.

    It is commendable that many courts remained open under adverse conditions. Many litigants are in need of court attention, and any day that passes without it can mean additional suffering for those persons. Mark c. Zauderer
