On the first Tuesday of November, 1789, District Judge James Duane of the District of New York held the first session of any court under the new U.S. Constitution. The Southern District of New York, the "Mother Court," will will mark the court's 225th anniversary this year, beginning with a commemoration of its first session on Nov. 4, continuing through 2015 with re-enactments of historic trials, lectures on notable judges who served on the court and exhibits featuring art and historic artifacts.
