Philadelphia-based Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman is combining with Georgoulis & Associates, a six-attorney construction law firm in lower Manhattan. The combination gives Cohen Seglias 59 attorneys in nine offices, including a full-time presence in New York. Before it absorbed the Georgoulis firm, Cohen Seglias attorneys worked part time in Manhattan. The three partners and three associates from Georgoulis will keep their offices at 120 Wall St. The merger is effective Jan. 1
Georgoulis & Associates, working in public and private construction, represents owners, contractors, subcontractors, construction managers, architects, engineers and sureties in construction disputes. Chris Georgoulis, who established the firm in 1997, will be the combined firm's managing partner in New York.
Cohen Seglias represents contractors in construction projects and also focuses on real estate, procurement, labor and employment and health care matters, said firm partner and treasurer George Pallas. "Everything was pointing in the direction to establish a solid footprint," he said. The two firms did not have any client conflicts, Pallas added.
Georgoulis said the merger creates more opportunity to expand into other practice areas and resources to handle more construction cases. "You can just handle so much with six lawyers," he said.
