Judge Ruiz

Family Court Judge Jeanette Ruiz (See Profile) has been appointed supervising judge of the Brooklyn Family Court, replacing Judge Paula Hepner (See Profile), who has retired. Ruiz was appointed an interim Family Court judge in July 2007 and a judge in April 2008. She is a member the Family Court Rules and Advisory Committee and chairs its child welfare subcommittee.

Ruiz, a Georgetown Law School graduate, was appointed a New York City assistant corporation counsel in the General Litigation Division in 1987. In 1992, she was appointed assistant commissioner at the NYC Department of Business Services. In 1994, she joined the Harlem Dowling-West Side Center, a non-profit child welfare agency, as general counsel. In 2002, she was appointed deputy general counsel at the city's Administration for Children's Services, and in 2005 she became deputy commissioner, overseeing the foster care system.

Hepner retired after serving as a Family Court judge since 1990. She was appointed supervising judge in 200.
