The Issue Is Narrow, but the Stakes Are Large in Surveillance Case

Sylvia Royce, a Washington, D.C., attorney, often represents unpopular clients, such as alleged terrorists. In 2008, she joined a group of lawyers, journalists and organizations in a constitutional challenge to amendments to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. The U.S. Supreme Court today will hear arguments on whether that lawsuit can go forward on the merits.
