Ruling on Pilots' Pact Eases Airline's Path From Bankruptcy

American Airlines took a major step toward emerging from bankruptcy on Sept. 4, when a federal judge threw out its pilots' union contract. The decision by Southern District Bankruptcy Judge Sean H. Lane will now let the Fort Worth-Texas airline lower its pilot payroll.
