Gioconda, a partner at DLA Piper, writes that the art community can learn from the actions taken by the luxury goods and consumer products industries as they face a similar threat from counterfeiters: demand stricter penalties for offenders and stronger federal laws, and use a registered trademark to identify works, instead of a signature that provides little legal protection.
